Ended up separating the head from the block and pulled it apart to see the condition of it as I will be rebuilding it anyway.
Wasn't very pleased with what I found:
Went and grabbed some E85 and put everything into a container overnight:
After a couple of wipes with a rag, this is what I was left with:
Cleaned and oiled for storage for the time being:
Now on to the head:
Pulled out the rocker arm shafts (for anyone doing this on a h22, remember to pull out the oil orifice or it won't come out!)

In went some fresh E85 into a container and chucked the head in:
Left it in for 2 nights and the head turned into this:
